VASER® LipoSelection®, Ultrasonic, and Tumescent Liposuction in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Having a figure you love can be a tremendous boost to your self-esteem. Liposuction, also called lipoplasty, can help you get rid of nagging bulges and trouble spots that don't seem to respond to diet and exercise, helping you feel good about the way you look. Dr. Dennis Hurwitz has been a leader among liposuction surgeons for many years. He has always been at the progressive edge of advanced liposuction techniques, including tumescent liposuction and VASER® LipoSelection® (ultrasonic liposuction). If you are interested in having liposuction surgery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dr. Hurwitz can help you safely achieve beautiful results.

Liposuction Overview

Liposuction can be used on almost any area of the body where fat tends to settle, including the neck, arms, abdomen, back, buttocks, hips, thighs, calves, and ankles. The procedure can usually be completed on an outpatient basis. Depending on your desired treatment area and outcome, Dr. Hurwitz can perform power-assisted, tumescent, or ultrasonic liposuction at his Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania practice. His liposuction results are so fabulous that his patients come from not only Pennsylvania, but from all over the United States.

Regardless of the type of liposuction you choose, the steps are similar. First, you will be given an anesthetic – either local or general – or an epidural, depending on which areas you are having treated. No matter which technique Dr. Hurwitz chooses, you will be given fluids through an IV during the liposuction procedure. Once you are comfortable, Dr. Hurwitz will insert a thin hollow tube, called a cannula, into your treatment area. It is attached to a special vacuum that sucks up the fat cells as the cannula is moved through your tissue. Dr. Hurwitz always takes care to make as few small incisions as possible to minimize healing time and scarring.

VASER® Ultrasonic LipoSelection®

VASER® LipoSelection, a form of ultrasonic liposuction available at the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania office of Dr. Hurwitz, is a very effective method of removing unwanted fat from specific areas of the body. Dr. Hurwitz prefers LipoSelection® technology because of its efficiency over other methods of ultrasonic assisted lipoplasty, or UAL.

VASER® LipoSelection® uses ultrasonic energy to liquefy fat in the targeted area so the fat can be easily removed by a vacuum-powered cannula, or tube. Unlike other forms of ultrasonic liposuction, the VASER® cannula uses gentle diffused energy to break up fat. This method means that the same results are obtained with half the ultrasonic energy of other machines, lessening the risk of such side effects as thermal damage, burning, or swelling.

VASER® Ultrasonic LipoSelection® is especially effective in removing fat from fibrous areas such as the chest and the back, though it can also be used on such areas as the arms, buttocks, love handles, and chin.

To find out if the VASER® LipoSelection® method of ultrasonic liposuction is right for you, contact the Hurwitz Center for Plastic Surgery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to schedule a consultation with Dr. Hurwitz.

Tumescent Liposuction

Tumescent liposuction , another popular method used by Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania surgeon Dr. Hurwitz, requires large amounts of fluid to be injected into the target area. To prepare for tumescent liposuction, Dr. Hurwitz creates a customized blend of anesthetic and intravenous saline solution, which is then injected into the body. This solution swells the fat pockets and allows the liposuction cannula to more easily move through tissue and remove the fat cells.

Tumescent liposuction is ideal for body areas that require precise fat removal, such as the face, calves, and ankles. In many cases, tumescent liposuction is also the preferred choice for treating patients who wish to remove large areas of fat at once.

If Dr. Hurwitz selects the tumescent liposuction technique for you at his Pennsylvania office, he will inject large amounts of an anesthetic liquid into your treatment area before making any incisions. The liquid helps to minimize your fluid loss, may reduce bruising, and may allow you to avoid the need for additional anesthetic.

Power-Assisted Liposuction

Power-assisted liposuction is a new technique that uses a motorized cannula. Because it vibrates as it moves through the tissue, power-assisted liposuction is less tiring for the surgeon than traditional liposuction, resulting in a more precise outcome. Power-assisted liposuction has also been associated with a shorter recovery time for patients. Because it is a new technique, be sure to choose a surgeon with the training and experience to perform it properly. Dr. Hurwitz meets and exceeds these qualifications.

Most of the risks involved in liposuction can be minimized by choosing a highly qualified and experienced liposuction surgeon like Dr. Hurwitz. Should you choose to undergo either tumescent or ultrasonic liposuction in Pennsylvania, he will advise you of potential complications, give you thorough pre and postoperative instructions, and take the time to answer your questions.
