Sagging skin and stubborn, excess fat can not only affect your self-confidence, but these concerns can have a negative impact on your overall quality of life as well. While there are several body contouring procedures designed to slim excess tissue, most are meant to treat more severe cases. Patients with moderate sagging often choose not to pursue a traditional tummy tuck or other surgeries as they are considered too invasive. Now, BodyTite offers patients an effective, minimally invasive tummy tuck alternative. With a fairly short recovery time and minimal risk of complications, patients are choosing this procedure more and more because it only has a minor impact on their daily life. Dr. Dennis Hurwitz is a diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and one of the few doctors trained to offer this advanced procedure. He has dedicated his career to helping his patients improve their confidence through innovative treatments at The Hurwitz Center for Plastic Surgery in Pittsburgh, PA.*
BodyTite differs from other body contouring procedures in that it relies on radio-frequency technology to tighten and lift skin without the use of larger incisions required for traditional contouring. The advanced technology provides 3-D contraction of the dermis, subdermal connective tissue matrix, and deeper layers of fat. With BodyTite, patients with moderate sagging skin due to dramatic weight loss or aging can experience improved definition.*
Typically, BodyTite is used to treat:
Additionally, the body sculpting procedure can typically target nearly any area where stubborn fat and loose skin tend to develop.
By undergoing BodyTite treatment, patients can alleviate sagging skin or excess fat that may be causing them to feel self-conscious. The effects of feeling more comfortable in your skin can improve your overall quality of life. Many patients find they are more at ease in social situations and enjoy wearing a greater variety of clothing. In addition to enhanced definition and boosted confidence, BodyTite offers several advantages over other body contouring procedures, including:
Patients who choose BodyTite can reduce sagging skin without the scarring that often results from surgical procedures due to large incisions. Additionally, each area can generally be treated in about 15 minutes. Since the procedure is less invasive, patients can also expect a shorter recovery time without having to take leave from work or significantly altering their lifestyle. Typically, the procedure results in less bruising, swelling, and pain due to the highly accurate administration of thermal energy, minimal incisions, and use of sedation with an anesthetic.*
BodyTite technology includes built-in safeguards which your doctor can personally set based on your needs. Throughout treatment, Dr. Hurwitz will continuously regulate your skin temperature and energy output of the system. Automatic cut-off levels are also in place to further minimize the risk of complications.
Although many patients find plastic surgery to be a great investment, cost can be a major consideration. Depending on the size of the treatment area, BodyTite generally costs significantly less than traditional procedures such as abdominoplasty. In most cases, total cost can be up to 50 to 75 percent less.
Patients with moderate amounts of excess skin or fat may be better suited for this treatment as opposed to surgical procedures such as:
Like any other contouring procedure, patients should be healthy and have realistic expectations of the outcome they can hope to achieve. Prior to your treatment, you will attend a consultation with Dr. Hurwitz to discuss your goals, medical history, and more in order to determine whether BodyTite is the right procedure for you.
To ensure your comfort and relaxation during the procedure, Dr. Hurwitz will first supply a combination of local anesthetic and oral sedation. Once the medication has taken effect, he will make a very small incision, just 3mm, in order to gently insert a very small cannula under the skin. An electric current will then apply controlled thermal energy to the targeted areas.
This tool is attached to a radiofrequency electrode that is placed on top of the skin. Together, these two pieces simultaneously melt fat while tightening the skin. The heat causes uniform contraction that will lead to tighter and smoother-looking skin. The doctor's ability to control these various elements allows for highly accurate, even treatment.
Typically, patients can return to their normal daily activities within two to ten days following their procedure. High-impact exercise should only be resumed as advised by the doctor. Some patients may experience minor bruising or numbness immediately after their treatment, however, these side effects should subside within a few days. Patients generally report no to very minimal pain, but any discomfort can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain medication.
With a fairly short recovery and minimal risk of complications, more and more patients are choosing BodyTite because it has only a minor impact on their daily life.
You will be provided with a compression garment to wear, which is designed to improve circulation and enhance contouring. The garment will also allow you to move more comfortably without disturbing the treatment area. Each patient will experience some variance in their recovery and Dr. Hurwitz will provide you with specific post-operative instructions to ensure that you achieve the best results possible.
Once the swelling has reduced, patients should begin to see the first signs of improvement within one to three months. Final results will typically be visible within about six months. Dr. Hurwitz has helped many patients substantially improve trouble areas in just one treatment.*
